The main ingredients of Amaro Scoccia Calaminta are finger lime and the small-flowered Sicilian mountain mint.
The finger lime is named after its shape and approximate size, which resembles human fingers. Its original habitat is the subtropical rainforests of eastern Australia, although it is now also cultivated in regions such as Sicily. Due to its unique structure, it is also known as “citrus caviar”, as the small juice vesicles inside strongly resemble caviar in appearance. Its flavour and acidity are very intense, meaning that even a small amount is enough to add a distinctive aromatic note.
The small-flowered mountain mint originates from the Mediterranean region and is still widely used today, especially in Italian cuisine. Its intense mint flavour is also valued in herbal medicine.
